Here is a screenshot from the Update Utility, which basically says that both of my Intel drivers are perfectly fine. In any case, I went ahead and re-installed the driver for the chipset. So, does anyone have a suggestion of what I might do to resolve this issue If additional information is needed, I will supply it. But the official site for my computer (click here for the link) says nothing about the SM Bus Controller, so your sarcastic response to my question is totally unhelpful and unwarranted. Did you try the vista driver anyway And when it comes to XP, some machines will never run it without small issues like this. This can cheese off some folk that are not well seasoned. Bob. I see there are some further findings below but you do bring up a good point. What Is Amd Smbus Software Over TheThat is, while I lived through all this and authored a lot of software over the years Im seeing more folk moving away from the keyboard. That is, if they cant click fix it they are off to the repair counter. For example your old XP hand knows that they must not just look at the device manager about this and install the SM Bus driver. They know this driver has dependencies so its likely that we must install some chipset driver first and then if the SM Bus is in a second driver to reboot and continue with the next. But and this is important, the SM Bus does not have to work for XP to work and run just fine. There are folk that are OCD that must fix every device manager entry.
